Jewelry

Lord of the Rings was, after all, all about the bling. Sauron had rings, Elves had rings,
Dwarves had rings, and even poor Aragorn carried his own burden in the form of a
ton of jewelry: the Evenstar, Elfstone, the  heriditary Ring of Barahir, an Elven Mallorn
leaf cloak clasp, not to mention those elaborate Elven decorated knives, swords, and
so on.

Licensees rushed to get a piece of the action, and hundreds of different items were
available to consumers in lots of different countries.

Buttons and Badges get their own separate page here.

Here is my own collection of Preciousesss. Enjoy!

Weta Workshop Gift

To thank the staff a Weta, Richard Taylor had special presentation rings made of acid etched brass. The elvish writing was mirror imaged by accident, so the writing appears backwards on the rings, which were presented in handmade giftbags.

Only about 180 of these rings were made.

Grupo Midas

Grupo Midas was licensed for a series of movie related jewelry in Spain.

The jewelry was beautifully packaged, in boxes with artwork that matched the character the jewel belonged to.

Inside was a faux suede pouch stamped in gilt.

I pictured the catalogue, because it shows they offered several versions of some items.

Singapore

series of licensed, highly detailed pewter charms hung on cords.

This was a stunning series, with beautiful detailing, depicting helmets and shields not seen in any other licensed line, and with many evil character's paraphernalia, instead of just the good guys.

Apologies to the Ebayer I stole the photos from years ago. His were much better than the ones I was able to take, so I took liberties.

This series was only available for a brief period of time, and was highly sought after by collectors.

Italy

 Medioeveo
Acacia Giuseppe

Licensed series of LOTR related jewelry, including a very unusual Theoden's sheild.

If I could have my pick of any props from the movie trilogy, it would be Theoden's collar and shield.

I fell in love with his armor after seeing it on exhibition at the FIDM in LA during the 2003 (Two Towers) Oscar presentations. The guard let me get as close as I could as long as I didn't touch. Even the backside of the sheild is decorated, as are most the fish scales on his armor.

This was as close as I could get to the real thing.

 More Medioeve Acacia Giuseppi

These were too expensive to obtain the whole set, although I would have liked to have had them. I was only able to afford the ring and (of course!) Theoden's Shield.

Germany

Handmade oversized cast brass One Ring version, worn by Sauron in opening ceremonies of RingCon 1, in Bonn Germany, and auctioned to benefit a German childrens' charity.

RingCon1 had little support from New Line, but they were authorized to use the movie name and characters for various purposes, including the opening ceremony. The Sauron costume was professionally made.

After realizing the success of the first RingCon, NLC provided extensive support, including permitting upper echelon actors to appear, for the next two RingCons.

Germany

Licensed One Ring version, sold at fine jewelers.

I bought this one at a jewelry store in Frankfurt aum Mainz. I couldn't resist the easel they had out on the sidewalk, and only wish I'd though to take a picture of it!

Ring came in tiny velvet drawstring bag, as pictured

Germany

Licensed Sting sword and Gimli's axe. Sterling Silver.

Sting measures about 2.5" long. I nearly missed a flight after Frankfurt airport security deemed this necklace a hazardous weapon. No joke! Fortunately I was travelling with a small child, they felt sorry for me, and they sent a guard with me, who handed my "weapon" to the stewardess, who held it til the end of the flight.
    Wow.......

Does not seem to have been widely distributed.

Germany

licensed wristwatches

I think these were sold by the Elbenwald (elf woods) catalogue. There was a series of about half a dozen versions, but sadly, they were too expensive to complete my set.

USA

Fossil Watch Company

Fossil created a series of elaborately packaged watches.

I think this is the whole series, except for an Elven watch that had charms on it, and which I found singularly unattractive.

The Eye of Sauron watch is holographic, and when placed in the Bara'dur cradle, appears to be looking around.

The Aragorn watch came in a wooden shaker style box with wood-burning touches on it.

The Gollum watch came with a figure of Gollum kneeling over a pool, looking at himself.

The figure was extremely well done, and I would not be surprised if Sideshow had a hand in the production of both it and the Bara'dur statue.

 Netherlands

Prototype stick on clock

I bought this on a whim from a Dutch eBayer, not knowing what it was, til one day a couple of years later, I was in a gift shop in Amsterdam, and realized the shop had a whole line of these stick on clocks.

The clerk was a fan of these Dutch clocks, and collected them. I asked him if he knew anything about the LOTR version. He insisted there was no such thing, and even pulled out his catalogues to prove it to me, hence I'm guessing this is a prototype that may have been submitted to NLC for licensing, and declined, or the small company had a heart attack when they were presented with the licensing fees.

Decipher

Champion Pins

for winners of Decipher champtionship card tournaments.

beautifully designed, and they come in gold, silver, bronze, and copper tones, presumably for first through fourth places.

The ones pictured here are (clockwise from top left) Nazgul, Orc, Sauron, and Elves, with the Rangers of Gondor star underneath.

The Sauron one is particularly nice. If you look closely, it's a large eye, on a small tower of Bara'dur.

USA
Handmade boxes and necklaces, gift of Cynthia Soviak of Valdosta, GA.

I don't picture fan items, since they're not licensed, but these are so beautifully done, I couldn't help myself.

 New Zealand

burnished brass "Riders of Rohan cloak pin buckle", supposedly cast from same molds as those used in filming, only.... I don't remember seeing anything like this in the films, nor does this look anything like the Rohan costumes I saw close up in L.A. And these look an awful lot like dragons, no horses.

May or may not be legit, but, if bootleg, a whole lot of serious collectors got taken for a ride. Seller was only going to produce a few, but later made more, and in other metals.

Cheng Chin-Chiang Catalogue

Rare catalogue depicting an eyepopping series of jewelry, which I have never been able to find, including gold and silver Galadriel swan, Tower of Bara'dur, Saruman Lizard, Evenstar, Elven ring, Argonath, statues, Fellowship logos, and various versions of the Mallorn leaf. There is also a beautiful Legolas emblem depicted in gold.

I would give my eye teeth to land hands on some of these items.

Catalogue is gorgeously printed. These were not trinkets, by any stretch of the imagination, but the question is, were they ever made?
