About Me

The Springlering Virtual Museum is a private collection based in Atlanta, Georgia, in the USA.

It is devoted to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings brilliant movie trilogy, including Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.

Begun in early 2002, the collection now numbers nearly 6,000 licensed movie items, as well as several thousand clippings.

The owner, Melinda Burnett, has been a guest speaker on the subject of Lord of the Rings collectibles at several fan conventions.

Items represented include everything imaginable (and some you could not), including cookies and candies, toys, stationery, clothing (including outer and underwear), jewelry, ephemera, and rare items issued by New Line Cinema and associates as both press and executive gifts.

All items are authentic unless otherwise stated, with provenance provided whenever possible. Much of this information is gleaned third-hand,  so if anyone has more accurate information on any of these items, an email would be much appreciated. This site and the collection itself are a work in progress.

And, in case you are wondering, the springlering is a dance beloved by hobbits, "pretty but vigorous".

FAQs

Aw, who am I fooling here? this is my site, and I have an awful lot of fun at this. How could I not? Here's the Gollum-like interview I did  with....errr....myself:

  • Favorite Item?  Oh, golly, that is a tough question. I have to say I enjoy the food items: cups, popcorn bags and buckets, candies and related items, including anything from the Japanese Bourbon snack line.  I love the tin items, including the Australian picker cannisters, the Theoden/Eomer "book" tin from Oz, gorgeous Thai CD holders, and the Japanese Bourbon cookie tin. Other favorites include the Spanish perfume set, and Spanish press kits (unique and imaginative), the "For Your Consideration" Oscar ads,  the Thai TTT premiere ticket of Frodo, and lobby cards from pretty much any country. A particular favorite is the Thai FOTR Banner set, and any of the very glossy Thai DVD release posters. (The Asian movie art was very different from the Western movie art.)
  •  Coolest Item?  The One Ring inscription, done by hand by Daniel Reeve, the movie calligrapher/cartographer responsible for the maps, calligraphy, and much of the "style" of the movie.
  •  Rarest Item? A Spanish promo sword (I've never seen another).

  • Hardest Item to Find? That is easily my "holy grail", the Japanese theatre catalogue music box. I started searching for one in 2002, and did not find it til 2006!

  • Why don't you show Toybiz, Sideshow-Weta or Topps items? Well, it's not that I don't love those items, too, but my goal is to show you amazing things you haven't dreamed existed, or which are no longer available, rather than something sitting MIB on a shelf  in a thousand collections.
  • Have you ever heard of a...... Maybe not! Email first to let me know you're sending pictures or a scan. I'm always eager to learn about new items, but I don't open attachments without advance warning.
  • Will you trade? You bet your bottom dollar I will!  But, I have nearly 6,000 items in my collection already, which makes it difficult. Email me with what you've got, but please don't be hurt if I say, "Sorry, already have one of those".
  • What is your collection worth? Priceless. Many of these items are things theatre goers and consumers threw away- cereal boxes, cans of beans, soda cups, popcorn bags. They are no longer available at any cost.
  • Are you nuts or something? Perhaps, but you're here looking at this site. Voluntarily.  (wink wink nudge nudge)   Anyway, no  actor producer, or crew member has been harmed in the making of this website, so I consider myself relatively nonthreatening. I have never chased Elijah Wood into the men's room, nor written my room number on a billboard for Craig Parker, nor would I consider doing so. Although, if Bernard Hill ever shows up with his shield, it's on, baby. I want that thing really bad.

****Disclaimer: Hey, I'm no lawyer. If I've done something illegal or offensive, drop me a line.  I will try to mend my wicked ways, at least the illegal bits. I don't really care too much if I offend anyone. That's a losing battle in this day and age anyway. This site is a hobby website. It is neither endorsed nor approved by The Tolkien Estate, Saul Zaentz Company, New Line Cinema, Sideshow-Weta, Wingnut Films, or Peter Jackson and associates. If, however, any of the aforementioned want to email me and approve, or at least give me an attaboy, I'm all for that! If it's anything to the contrary, though,  please be kind.....after all, I am  your best customer.
